Additional Software Programs Needed
You will need to have a software program called Adobe Acrobat Reader version 3.0 or above on your computer. If you don't have this program, it can be downloaded to your computer for free. To download this program go to the Adobe website (To return to this page, use the back button on your browser). Scroll down to the "Get Acrobat Reader, Free!" link. The free version is all you'll need for this course. Follow the 3 Steps to download Acrobat Reader. If you think you'll need additional instructions for downloading this software, click here.
Modem
Generally, modem speeds are: 12k, 24k, 56k, 76k, T-1, or cable lines. It is a good idea to be aware of your modem speed. It may affect your decison in choosing some of the options and downloads this course has to offer. Most people's modems are 56k. The course will work fine at that speed. If you are running at 24k or lower, each page will take a bit longer to download to your computer. If you are running on a T-1 or cable line or another service at an equivalant speed, the course will work exceptionally well.
Depending on the time of day and your Internet Service Provider, your Internet connection, with a 56k modem, may be as low as 25k, or as high as 44 to 46k. People with a 56k modem rarely ever achieve a 56k connection.
You might want to try the test below to get an idea of your modem speed.
Click here to test a page that has one of the Interactive Worksheets found in several modules in this course. See how long it takes to fully download this page. If it takes much more than a minute to download, your modem speed is relatively slow and you'll have to be patient when you get to this section of each course module.
This test is designed to show you how long it will take to download the most complex feature of this course. For the majority of the pages in each module download time will be much faster.
You need to have E-mail to participate in this Internet course. You will need to know your email address or get an Email account if you do not already have one. Click here to get information on setting up an Email account if you do not already have one.
