Segment One: Internet Training Course

You can register for the Internet course at this site online and pay the $50 course fee by credit card. Your payment will be processed via our secure credit card processing service. This service can only process payment for credit cards issued by banks in the United States. Your credit card statement will indicate a $50 payment to New York Sea Grant. You can also register for the Internet course by mail. Click on the “Register by Mail” option. Print out the registration form, fill it out, and mail the completed form with a check or money order to the New York Sea Grant address in Stony Brook, NY on the bottom of the form.

When your registration and payment are received, you will receive an Email message from seafoodhaccp@cornell.edu with instructions on how to obtain a Cornell University Guest ID. The Seafood HACCP Internet course is housed on the Blackboard course management system at Cornell University. You will be required to create and activate a Username and Password that will allow you to access this online course. When you have successfully created your Cornell Guest ID, you will receive another Email message from seafoodhaccp@cornell.edu with instructions on how to go to the Seafood HACCP course site using the Username and Password that you have created.

Your registration for the Internet Course will be valid for 6 months from the date that you register. After this time your Username and Password will no longer be valid. You can work on the course Modules at any time during this 6-month period by going to the active course site and entering your Username and Password. You will need to click on the “Logoff” button each time you leave the course, and “Login” again when you want to start working again.

All communications related to the Seafood HACCP Internet course will occur via Email, so you will need a valid Email address before you can start. Be sure that your Email address is correctly typed on the online registration form or typed or clearly printed on the mail registration form. You may also need to check to ensure that your Email system will accept messages from seafoodhaccp@cornell.edu. Some anti-Spam protection systems require that you approve or enter the Email addresses that you deem acceptable into your address book.

The Seafood HACCP Internet course consists of 12 modules, each of which corresponds to the chapters in the Alliance training manual. You will work through the 12 modules and submit the answers to a series of questions at the end of each module while you are logged into the course with the Username and Password you create. Your progress through the online course will be automatically tracked as you submit the answers to the questions for each course module. When you have completed and successfully submitted the answers to all 12 course modules, you will receive a final Email from Cornell University and the National Seafood HACCP Alliance stating that you have completed the Segment One Seafood HACCP Internet training course of the Seafood HACCP Alliance Training Program. This notification will serve as your "ticket" to a Segment Two “live” one-day training course. When you complete both the Segment One Internet course and the Segment Two “live” course you will be eligible for an Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) Certificate of Course Completion that is equivalent to attending a Seafood HACCP Alliance three-day training course.

The Internet course can be taken alone without attending a one-day “live” Segment Two course, if an AFDO certificate of course completion is not needed. For firms that already have employees who have this certificate and/or meet the training requirements of the FDA regulation, the Internet course may be an effective option for more of their employees to get basic training on HACCP principles and their application to seafood products.

Please print this page and refer to it later if you have questions about how the Internet course works.
